A Cytoarchitectural Study of the Cerebral Cortex, Especially on the Regio Praecentralis and Regio Postcentralis in the North Chinese Brains

Abstract
The cytoarchitectural stucture of the cerebral cortex in the North Chinese has already been reported by Suzuki, Terui, Takenaka, Igarashi, Shyu and Kao, especially on the frontal lobe, occipital lobe and the insula. The present information has been accomplished on the Regio praecentralis and the Regio postcentralis with the same object.
The spocimen, an adult Chinese ma~z¢¥s brain, with no history of mental or morphological abnormality has been preserved in 30percent neutral formalin. Care was taken to have each segment (ca. 0.51.0 cm in thickness) cut at right angle to the surface and to embrace as nearly as possible the entrire convultions.
And the individual areas were first recognized by their characteristic histotlogical :patterns. The tissue was frozen cut in sections 40 microns in thickness and stained with the Bielscho~:-sk~-¢¥s modification. The cells of each laver areanves-tigted for its size, form, arrangement and density. The thickness of the cortex and the size of the nerve cells were measured by the ocular micrometer. The size of cells such as measures 2030 in ~~idth, is indicated 2030/ 1015 in size.
In the present study, the cytoarchitectural subdivision of the cerebral cortex, the thickness of the size, the kindness and the atrrangement of the nerve cells, and the subdivi Sion of the layers of the cortex were intimately described comparing with those of the other authors. The correspondence of observation, the diversity of opinion, the revition and others were recognized. Whether these significances are depended upon the comprative structure of the brain or the anthropological differences may be dra`vn inferences from the facts on the correlative study of the cerebral cortex of the North Chinese brains.
